"John was Grandma's youngest brother.", Mom explains. "He had his own sailboat, and he died a long time ago. When Grandma was holding your model ship, she must have been thinking about John." Mom says, "Grandma, and other people with Alzheimer's Disease, can remember things that happened years ago and forget what happened just yesterday. Sometimes they think they are living in the past and mistake a person for someone else they used to know." I don't ask my mother any more questions. I am too sleepy for a whole family-history lesson right now. I, also, don't tell how I made my friends laugh about Grandma. |
